How to remove AI content (AI info) from a Facebook post
Updated
Facebook shows the AI content label (also worded AI info, and first called Made with AI) when your file carries an AI signal or when the Add AI label switch was on, and no setting removes an automatic label from a live post. You can swap the photo for a clean copy by editing the post, or delete the post and share the clean copy again. Either way, scrub the original file first so the new upload no longer carries the signal.
Why Facebook says AI info on a post
Facebook runs on the same rules as Instagram. Facebook's help page on labeling AI content says files with industry-standard signals showing they were created with AI get the AI content label, including files from third-party AI tools. Files whose signals show they were only modified with AI don't get the label on the post, and the details sit behind the options menu instead.
Those signals are C2PA Content Credentials and IPTC metadata. The same help page says photo editing tools that use AI to change the size or color of an image may add one. So a family photo touched up in an editor can reach Facebook already marked as AI-modified, even though a camera took it.
You are not the only one this happens to. Meta's Transparency Center counted over 360 million labeled Facebook items that people viewed between October 1 and 29, 2024, including more than 130 million reels and 12 million stories.
Can you remove AI info from a Facebook post?
Not with a setting. Meta reads the file when you upload it. Facebook's help pages describe the Add AI label switch at the moment you create a post, reel or story, not afterward. If you added it yourself by mistake, open the post's edit screen and look for it, and check the current screen in the app, since Meta moves these controls.
What you can change is the photo. Facebook's help page on editing posts says that in most cases you can remove a photo from a post without deleting the whole post, and add new photos or videos while editing. That gives you a middle path between living with the label and deleting the post.
How to remove AI info from a Facebook post on iPhone
- Find the original photo in your Photos app, not a copy saved from Facebook.
- Open ScrubPhoto in Safari and run the photo through the checker to see what triggered the label.
- Scrub a copy in the tool. Tap Share, then Save Image, so the clean copy lands in Photos. A JPEG keeps identical pixels and its color profile, while a HEIC photo is re-saved as a high-quality JPEG and marked as re-encoded.
- Go to your post, tap Options in the top right, and tap Edit Post.
- Tap Remove on the labeled photo, then tap Add media and pick the clean copy. Tap Save.
- Look at the post again. Facebook's help pages don't say whether swapping the photo clears an automatic label, so if the label stays, delete the post and share the clean copy as a new one.
Editing leaves the post in place, so you are not starting over the way a brand new post would. Deleting is final, and Facebook's help page on deleting photos warns that a deleted photo can't be recovered, so keep the original file safe on your phone. A swap isn't always possible either: the help page says you can't remove photos from posts shared from a third-party app or from a photo album.
How to remove AI info from a Facebook post on Android or any phone
The same steps work on Android with two differences. Use Download instead of Share and Save Image. And if you install ScrubPhoto from your browser, it shows up in the Android share sheet, so you can send a photo to it straight from your gallery. On a computer, pick the file in the tool and use Download. Nothing is uploaded on any device; the file is cleaned inside your browser.
Facebook Reels and Stories with AI info
Where the switch sits depends on the format, according to Facebook's help page for the iPhone and Android apps. In the post composer it reads AI Label off, with a dropdown beside it that opens the Add AI label toggle. A reel shows the toggle only after you tap Next and reach the publishing screen. A story keeps it under Settings. Check the one you are using before you share a real photo, so the label only appears when you meant it to.
Facebook says that since September 2025 all videos on Facebook are reels. For video, Meta said it cannot yet read AI signals in most third-party video and audio, so it relies on disclosure. Meta requires a label on photorealistic video and realistic-sounding audio that was digitally created or altered, and may apply penalties to people who skip it. If your reel fits that description, keep the label on. If it is real footage carrying stray metadata, ScrubPhoto cleans MP4 and MOV files in place without re-encoding, and the video guide has more.
To fix a labeled story, tap Your Story at the top of Feed, find the photo or video, tap Options, and choose Delete photo or Delete video. Then post a clean copy. If the story was also shared to Instagram, Facebook offers Delete from both. Be careful with reels you want to replace: Facebook's help page says deleting a reel also deletes all remixes of it.
Report a wrong AI label on Facebook
Facebook's help pages do not describe an appeal for an AI label on a single post. The documented route for something that isn't working is to go back to where you saw the problem, shake your phone, and tap Report problem. Without shaking, tap Menu, scroll to Help & support, tap Report problem, then tap Continue to report. Describe the edit you made and say the photo is real. It is feedback, and nothing guarantees the label will change.
What scrubbing cannot change on Facebook
Metadata is one signal among several. A label you switched on, a visible Imagined with AI watermark, the invisible watermark in Meta AI images and Meta's own detection all sit outside what a file cleaner can touch, so no tool can promise an unlabeled post. Profiles carry their own AI creator label, set in Edit profile, which the AI creator label guide explains for both apps. The Facebook page covers how Facebook decides in more depth.
Questions about AI info on Facebook
Can you remove AI info from a Facebook post?
Not the label itself. You can edit the post to swap in a clean copy of the photo, or delete the post and share the clean copy again. Scrub the file first, or the new upload will carry the same signal.
How do I remove AI info from a Facebook post on iPhone?
Scrub a copy of the original photo in Safari and save it with Share and Save Image. Then edit the post, remove the labeled photo and add the clean one. If the label stays, delete and repost.
Why does my Facebook reel say AI info?
The reel's file may carry AI credentials, the Add AI label switch may have been on, or it was made with a Meta AI tool. Meta relies mostly on disclosure for third-party video, so check the publishing screen first.
How do I remove AI info from a Facebook story?
Delete the photo or video from your story and post a clean copy. Before sharing the new one, open the story's Settings and check Add AI label.
Why does Facebook say AI info on a real photo?
Your editing app probably wrote an AI note into the file. Facebook's help page says even AI tools that only change size or color can add one. The checker shows exactly what your file carries.
Is the Facebook AI label the same as Instagram's?
Yes. Meta's help pages describe the same signals, the same AI content wording and the same options-menu details on both apps. The switch to add the label sits in different places, so check each app's share screen.
